The 2018 Chardonnay Spätlese semi-dry is brilliant and shows a pale golden yellow in the glass. The nose is still quite closed, but already now there is a good swing of exotic fruits, like candied kiwi, baby pineapple and dried apricot. At the time of tasting, the wine has only just been bottled and its expression will increase considerably.

In the mouth the Chardonnay presents itself semi-dry very strong with present fruit sweetness and moderate acidity. The 13.5% alcohol gives enormous pressure. In the first moment candied grapefruit, fully ripe pineapple and papaya come to mind. The play of present fruit sweetness and moderate acidity on the one hand, and discreet bitter substances with fine minerality on the other hand, give the wine a good tension and a good structure. The aftertaste is very long and characterized by aromas of candied, exotic fruits, dried apricots, sweet spices and cut grass.

The 2018 Chardonnay is very powerful and yet balanced.

Sommelier recommendations:
Best at 10-12°C in a large white wine glass from now on – 2022. As a food companion, try shrimp mango cocktail on roasted Tramizzini, dates in a bacon coat, or pork fillet with prune filling and sweet potatoes. A lamb tajin with apricot couscous is also an excellent companion.

Gently processed, without animal additives and cross-flow filtered – therefore also suitable for vegans.
