The 2018 Portugieser Weißherbst Qualitätswein dry is brilliant and appears with a strong salmon-red in the glass, with granet red reflexes. The first nose reveals fresh strawberry jelly and ripe blueberries. After swivelling you find also peach and sour cherries. With a lot of air even shiitake mushrooms.
In the mouth, the Portugieser Weißherbst presents itself dry, medium-strong with subtle extracted sweetness and mild acidity. The 12,5 volts appear nicely integrated. Associations of peach, raspberry and stones come to mind. A pleasant complexity is appearant. With lean structure of mild acidity, subtle bitter substances and present minerality further flavours of wild herbs and sour cherry appear. The finish is long and stimulating.
The Portugieser Weißherbst from 2018 is elegant and very typical for Rheinhessen in 2018.
It is best to enjoy this wein at 9-11°C in a small white wine glass from 2019 to 2021. Pair it with: Aspargus salad with strawberries or gratinated goat cheese with wild herb salad. In autumn, the charming fruit is even able to keep up with delightfully with a forest mushroom cappuccino sauteed chanterelles – however in this case I recommend a bigger glass to derieve also the earthy flavours of the Portguieser.
Gently processed, without animal additives and cross-flow filtered – therefore also suitable for vegans.
