Description
The 2019 Chardonnay trocken is brilliant and has a light golden yellow colour. The first nose reveals ripe pear and tart sage herbs. After swirling, cotton candy and candied Brazil nut find their way to the nose. With plenty of air also cellar apple and fresh white bread.
In the mouth the Chardonnay from the Gumbsheimer Schlosshölle presents itself strongly with very discreet extract sweetness. The light mousseux has a refreshing effect, but becomes superfluous after a few minutes in the carafe. Air is generally very good for the wine.
The very harmoniously balanced acidity confers spine and a light bitterness character. The alcohol (13% by volume) is well integrated and gives a boost. Cellar apple and fully ripe lemon come to mind. In the aftertaste then aromas of passion fruit, pineapple and tart green tea. With air again white bread from the long fine yeast storage.
Best at 11 – 13° in a large white wine glass. As an accompaniment to your meal, try a fresh crayfish salad with cocktail tomatoes and coriander. Also roasted turkey breast glazed with peanut-satée on herb rice with pineapple-chip results in a wonderfully harmonious combination. For vegetarians I recommend baked butternut with tomato salsa and pistachios.
