Description
2021 – bottled in 2024
With 36 months of barrel ageing in third-use barriques, this Chardonnay has matured wonderfully while remaining fresh. However, the fact that it is no lightweight is clear from its appearance.
It is brilliant and has a golden yellow color. The first nose reveals apricot, lots of spice, orange zest and tart sage herbs. After swirling, vanilla and nuts find their way to the nose.
On the palate, the Chardonnay from Gumbsheimer Schlosshölle is powerful with a very subtle extract sweetness. The balanced acidity gives the vanilla wood notes backbone and character. The alcohol is well-integrated and gives a boost. A beautiful blend of citrus and melting spreads. In the long finish, aromas of green tea, pineapple and firewood. Light brioche notes from the long yeast storage, supported by the supple tannins from the long barrique ageing.
Best served at 11 – 13° in a large white wine glass. Try it with a fresh crayfish salad with cocktail tomatoes and coriander. Roast turkey breast glazed with peanut satée on herb rice with pineapple potato chips also makes a wonderfully harmonious combination. Or vegetarian: baked butternut with tomato salsa and pistachios.
